Heavy Artillery

Herschel, the leader of the Monster Hunters has an impressive arsenal at his disposal. Not only does he have nearly every kind of hand held weapon available, he has managed to get his hands on some of the baddest heavy artillery and made it mobile. He relies most on three weapons in particular, all of them operated by specially trained Artillerists that also work for him.

Each of the war machines cost about the same as a war ship, going for roughly 15,000 to 20,000 GP, This explains why Herschel, with as money as he does, only has two of each of these machines and is very protective of them in regard to how they are used.

Carroballista

A Carroballista is the same as a larger ballista, only smaller so that it can be transported and fired on a cart. What it most resembles is a huge crossbow. The Carroballistas built by HMH (Herschel's Monster Hunters) ride on a 4 wheeled cart and is pulled by a team of two heavy horses. The Carroballista can fire a maximum distance of 500 yards with accuracy decreasing with distance.

An Artillerist who operates such artillery fires/attacks on the Fighter Table.

The Carroballista fires what is the equivalent of a heavy spear at it's target, causing 2-16 HP damage (2d8) On a To Hit roll of a natural 20, it will do double normal damage. Herschel has special, silver alloy missile heads for use against undead targets in which they will inflict the same damage vs undead as the non-silver weapons do against living/normal targets. Normal heads will not cause damage to undead.

Catapult

The Catapult as used by Herschel's teams, is a mobile, cart bound weapon that in similar fashion to the Onager, uses a beam with a bowl or bucket shaped ammunition carrying end. The catapult can hurl round, specially shaped stones weighing approx. 20 pounds each at a target.

The Catapult can fire a maximum distance of 500 yards with accuracy decreasing with distance.

An Artillerist who operates such artillery fires/attacks on the Fighter Table.

The catapult can hurl round, specially shaped stones weighing approx. 20 pounds each at it's target, causing 2 to 20 HP damage (2d10) On a To Hit roll of a natural 20, it will do double normal damage.

Onager

An Onager (the siege weapon, not the animal) is very similar to a catapult, except that it has a sling at it's end instead of a "cup" to hold missiles. Think of it as a humungous sling fired from the back of a wagon.

The Onager can hurl solid round stones weighing approx. 10 pounds each at a target or clay globes filled with a flammable substance such as pitch that can be lit just before release, causing the target to be covered and often engulfed in flames.

Like the Carroballista, the Onager has a range of maximum 500 yards, regardless of hurling the heavy stones or clay globes.

An Artillerist who operates such artillery fires/attacks on the Fighter Table.

The Onager fires a heavy stone at it's target, causing 2 to 8 HP damage (2d4). Clay globes cause 1-4 HP damage with 1 to 6 HP fire damage per round the fire goes un-extinguished. On a To Hit roll of a natural 20, it will do double normal damage.
